Microsoft's $68.7 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard has been approved by EU regulators just weeks after UK regulators blocked the acquisition. The European Commission has concluded that the deal can pass thanks to commitments from Microsoft related to cloud gaming. The commission cleared the deal under the condition that current and future Activision Blizzard games be made available across competing cloud gaming services for a 10-year period. With this commitment in place, the EC says it's satisfied that the merger will "represent a significant improvement for cloud game streaming compared to the current situation." The Commission notes that "cloud game streaming service providers gave positive feedback and showed interest in the licenses" and points to existing Microsoft agreements with cloud providers such as Boosteroid. Microsoft and Activision Blizzard will need to fight off both the UK's and the U.S.' scruples to see their full deal come to fruition. U.S. regulators are more than a little wary about that $70 billion deal to merge two titans of the video game industry. Last year, the Federal Trade Commission launched a lawsuit to block the deal. The companies have promised to fight off that suit, and there is a hearing on the merger by the FTC scheduled for August. Read more -here-
