TikTok tweaked its US privacy policy this week to say it could collect "biometric identifiers and biometric information" like "faceprints and voiceprints" from your videos. The video-based social app will ask for permission where required by law, the policy notes.

The biometric data collection details were introduced in the newly added section, "Image and Audio Information," found under the heading of "Information we collect automatically" in the policy. In February, TikTok paid $92 million to settle a class-action lawsuit in Illinois over allegations that it violated the state's biometric data privacy law.

Last year, the Trump administration unsuccessfully attempted to ban TikTok from the US entirely, claiming its ownership by Beijing-based ByteDance posed a national security threat.
