LastPass' free service will add a major limitation next month

LastPass is making big changes to LastPass Free, the no-cost version of its password manager, and they're likely to go down badly among those who have been relying on the security tool. Starting March 16th, 2021, LastPass Free users will have to choose between mobile or computers for their unlimited device access, rather than getting the system on both.

To use LastPass on all devices, a LastPass Premium account is required. LastPass Premium is priced starting at $3 per month when billed annually. LastPass is offering a discount at the current time that brings the price down to $2.25 per month.

For free users, the first login on or after March 16 will set the active device type. To prevent users from getting stuck on an unwanted platform, LastPass provides users three opportunities to change their active device type. After the third change, users will be stuck on that platform unless they upgrade to a LastPass Premium or Families account.

As well as restricting its device types, LastPass is also changing the kinds of customer support free tier users will be able to access. From May 17th, free users will lose access to email support, the company announced.
