Tesla Inc Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk made good on his promise to sell "Tesla Tequila" - two years after teasing the plan in a tweet, and the $250 bottles quickly flew off the virtual shelf. Pictures revealed a sleek, lightning bolt-shaped bottle, a lot different than what Musk teased when he touted the Tequila. Musk first tweeted about "Teslaquila" on April 1, 2018 as part of a series of April Fool's pranks that also included jokes that the electric car company was facing bankruptcy. In those tweets, Musk joked that he had been "found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by 'Teslaquilla' bottles" and he included a photo of himself holding sign reading "bankwupt!" In October 2018, Tesla officially filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the brand name "Teslaquila." Tequila, like Champagne, is subject to strict denomination-of-origin rules; tequila must be manufactured in one of five Mexican states. It must also be made from blue agave, among other rules. According to the website, the product was produced by Nosotros Tequila, a California-based brand. On Nosotros Tequila's website, it says its agave is sourced in Jalisco, one of the permitted states. Nosotros Tequila also offers bottles of its own stuff for $40 - $45, but those haven't been aged for an extra four months in French oak barrels and poured into this exclusive hand-blown bottle — notably shaped like a bolt of electricity to signify the tie-in. This isn't Tesla's first non-EV-related product. In 2018, it created a $1,500 carbon Fiber surfboard. And Musk's Boring Company famously made the 'Not a Flamethrower' device, a roofing torch with an air rifle cover. Read more -here-
