Mozilla's VPN service has officially launched and is now available for Windows and Android in six countries worldwide, including the US, Canada, and the UK, the company announced today. The service is available for $4.99 a month, and, like other VPNs, it's designed to make your web-browsing more private and secure. As part of the move, the service is being rebranded from Firefox Private Network to Mozilla VPN, a change that was announced last month. VPNs act as an encrypted tunnel for transferring data on the internet, helping to protect sensitive information in transit. Originally developed as a tool of the business world, VPNs are used by a quarter of internet users for hiding online activity, bypassing internet censorship in countries without a free internet and avoiding geography-based restrictions on streaming services. VPNs also can obscure internet addresses, making it harder for advertisers, publishers and data brokers to track you online. The Mozilla VPN helps people control their digital privacy. It encrypts users' devices adding an extra layer of protection for users' personal data and information. For example, it makes online transactions more private by masking users' IP addresses and locations. This added layer of protection also helps ensure communicating and making video calls with family and friends is more secure. Mozilla VPN runs on a global network of servers operated by Mullvad, a commercial open source VPN service based in Sweden that has a "no-logging" policy. This means it promises to not record a user's IP address, browsing activity, session duration, timestamp, DNS request, or similar data points.
