Qualcomm on Friday announced plans to bring 5G to more affordable phones next year with its new Series 7 and Series 6 platforms that will end up in phones that aren't as expensive as today's 5G handsets. "We launched 5G," Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said Friday during a keynote presentation at IFA." We want everyone to have it. With this technology … we're going to bring 5G to scale with our many partners." Qualcomm says that it already has 12 manufacturers, including LG, Oppo, and HMD Global (which produces smartphones under the Nokia brand), that plan to use the new 7-series processor in their upcoming phones. Qualcomm expects these manufacturers to start launching devices using the integrated chipset at some point after the fourth quarter of this year. Devices using the integrated 6-series chipset, meanwhile, are expected to launch in the second half of 2020. Qualcomm is already supplying phone makers such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd with chips for 5G wireless data networks, which are expected to be faster than current 4G and LTE networks. But those chips have typically been from the San Diego chip suppliers' most expensive line, its Snapdragon 8 series. Read more -here-
