Samsung demonstrates stretchable display

At Display Week 2017, which takes place in Los Angeles, Samsung demonstrated the first stretchable, color OLED display.

Actually we've already seen flexible displays like that including the curved round the sides of the Galaxy S8 edge phone. But stretchable is different as it can bend in more than one direction. That means you can push it in or pull it out and it will flex then bounce back into position.

The 9.1-inch display can roll, bend, and even stretch in both direction by as much as 12 millimetres. This gives it a total range of 2.4 centimeters.

The demonstrated screen is just a prototype. There's no plans on when, or even if, a screen like this could show up on an actual product. Such a display could be useful for everything from wearables to in-car displays, and could also lead to a new generation of wearable devices that can be knocked or dropped and simply move back into place.
