Microsoft announced Thursday that its Office is now free on mobile devices. Users won't need an Office 365 subscription to create or edit documents using mobile Office apps. However, users who choose to pay for subscription will get extra features, such as unlimited OneDrive storage, and Dropbox integration. The company said also that Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will be available for the iPhone and Android. Previously, only iPad users had access to the full versions of the mobile Office apps.

The move shows Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella vision that the company must deliver services to businesses and consumers everywhere, especially on mobile devices.

"Our pace of change with Office over the last 12 months or so has been pretty phenomenal," says Microsoft Office exec Michael Atalla. "About 150 updates have gone out to Office apps across all platforms, about a third of them in the past three months," he added.
