The Pirate Bay Switches Domains After Founders' Appeal Denied

Sweden's Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal by the founders of The Pirate Bay, meaning their jail sentences and fines are now final.

In 2010, TPB founders Fredrik Neij, Peter Sunde, and Carl Lundström received 10 month, eight month, and four month prison sentences, respectively, after being found guilty in 2009 of violating Swedish copyright law. Those sentences will now be upheld along with a fine against the three men equaling about $6.82 million.

"The Supreme Court today decided to reject the request from two of the appellants to seek a preliminary ruling from the European Court of Justice or to grant leave to appeal in the so-called Pirate Bay case," the court said in a translated statement on its Web site. "Thus stands the Court of Appeal ruling in place."

Following the verdict, The Pirate Bay has now moved its main domain to thepiratebay.se. The site's concerned that, with the trial now out of the way, there's little to stop the US seizing the domain as it recently did with Megaupload.
