WiGig promises low-power 2Gbps wireless device communication by 20132012-01-13 13:48 by DanielaTags: WiGig, 802.11d, CES
A few days ago, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas was the debut of WiGig, the technology behind the evolving 802.11d standard for ultra-high-speed wireless data transfers and in-home docking and content applications. Wireless Gigabit will allow devices-anything from PCs to tablets to TVs-to communicate with each other on the 60GHz spectrum band at theoretical maximum speeds of 7 gigabits per second. At CES 2012, Wilocity announced and demoed the first chipsets to implement the WiGig standard across a variety of devices including laptops, keyboards, mice, TVs, and wireless hard drives - and their availability to OEM customers for designing into products. Amazingly, all these devices can communicate with each other at seemingly infinite speeds with WiGig. Gigabyte files were transferred in only a few seconds - dozens of times faster than on even the best current WiFi network.
Sadri expects wide availability of WiGig-enabled devices in 2013. Read more -here-
