Google considers Yahoo bid

Google is exploring the possibility of helping to finance a possible deal by private equity firms to acquire Internet search company Yahoo, according to a report published by the Wall Street Journal on Saturday. Google and prospective partners have held early-stage discussions but haven't put together a formal proposal and Google may end up not pursuing a bid.

Google is reportedly interested in selling advertising across Yahoo's sites and bringing its social networking service Google+ to Yahoo's nearly 700 million monthly unique visitors.

Even if Google put together a bid, it's likely federal antitrust lawyers would have an issue with the merging of the two search giants, as they did when Google and Yahoo inked a web-advertising deal in 2008.
