Microsoft Fixes 22 Flaws in August Patch Tuesday2011-08-10 11:07 by DanielaTags: Patch Tuesday
Microsoft has released fixes for 22 vulnerabilities discovered in Internet Explorer, Windows, Visio and Visual Studio. The fixes are part of Microsoft's monthly Patch Tuesday upgrades and include 13 security bulletins, two of which are rated critical in severity, nine important and two moderate. Microsoft advises that the two critical vulnerabilities, which affect Internet Explorer and Windows DNS server, should be patched immediately. According to the company the Internet Explorer vulnerability will soon be exploited in the wild probably within the next 30 days while the probability of DNS flaw being exploited was on the lower end of the spectrum and may get exploited next month some time. Microsoft also fixed a Data Access Components issue that would have allowed attackers to link an Excel file with a maliciously modified library located on the same network directory. When opened, the library would load and execute on the system with the same privileges as the user opening the Excel file. Another remote code execution flaw was patched in Visio this month.
