NEC Corp. is set to release its 3D personal computer this autumn, the company has announced.

The electronics manufacturer unveiled a prototype of its new 3D personal computer on Monday. The new model, which allows users to enjoy 3D images using dedicated eyeglasses, will hit the domestic market by the end of September this year, a company official said.

This will be the second entry into the 3D market for NEC, which introduced 3D computers for the domestic market in 2004 but was forced to pull out partly due to a lack of relevant software. With other electronic manufacturers releasing 3D flat-screen TVs following the enormous success of 3D movie "Avatar," NEC has also decided to try and break into the 3D-industry once again.

In addition to a 3D desktop computer, the company also plans to introduce 3D laptops.

The new 3D computer will feature software to convert two-dimensional photographs or movies into 3D images, and a media player for 3D visual software and TV programs. The price is expected to be around 20,000 yen more expensive than NEC's ordinary computers.
