Dell offers experimental Chrome OS for Mini 10v netbooks

Engineers at Dell have worked to release an experimental, but unstable version of Google's Chrome OS that runs on the firm's Mini 10v netbooks.

Dell has been a long-term and particularly high-profile supporter of Windows alternatives - particularly on netbooks - having offered Ubuntu as a pre-install choice on selected models in its range. Its support for alternative operating systems hasn't just been limited to its netbooks though, as a number of the PC maker's other laptops have also had Ubuntu pre-install options.

The attention now appears to be moving towards Google's Chrome OS, which was recently open sourced to its Chromium developer community. Dell's Doug Anson has released a USB key image file of his own Chrome OS installation which you can extract onto your own USB thumb drive, providing it's at least 8GB in size.
